How Nature 🌳 Can Help You Break Free From Burn Out

As entrepreneurs, we wear so many hats 🧢, constantly up-skilling and learning new things. Our minds are switched on 24/7 , and more often than not, we’re the sole drivers of our businesses. No wonder so many of us are burning out!

And when burnout hits, it doesn’t just affect us—it impacts our business too.

Burnout is when we’ve been hustling for too long without a break. The stress builds up, and recovery? Not even on the agenda—who has time for that?! Soon, you’re feeling totally depleted, dragging yourself through each day while running on stress alone (tired but wired!).

Here are a few signs you might be burning out:

  • Constant Fatigue 😴 – You’re always exhausted, even after a full night’s sleep.

  • Brain Fog – Concentrating feels like wading through mud.

  • Irritability – Little things start to grate on you more than usual.

  • Overwhelm and Lack of Motivation – The work you once loved now feels like a chore.

Burnt out is physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. Now before you panic, like Elise ahhh this is me this doesn’t sound good what can I do….

I have good news!!

One of the best ways to break the burnout cycle? Getting outside.

Nature really is such a healing place for us to be as human beings. It calms us, grounds us, helps give us perspective and feel more connected to the world around us. All incredibly important things for our well-being, energy and our business health too.

(Because a frazzled and exhausted nervous syst

em and mind are going to struggle to show up each day the way your business needs to succeed- understandably so!)

Now being in nature doesn’t have to mean escaping to the wilderness for a week ( though that does sound appealing 😂).

You can still get the mood boosting, stress reducing, headspace giving benefits of nature in more simple daily ways….

☀️ Morning Sunlight

  • Why it Helps: Morning sunlight not only lifts your mood but also regulates your body’s internal clock, known as the circadian rhythm. This helps improve sleep quality, builds resilience to stress, and naturally increases your energy levels throughout the day. So a win all round!

  • How to Do It: Spend just 10–15 minutes outside first thing in the morning. It’s a great way to ease into the day, helping you feel calm and focused right from the start.

🚶‍♀️ Short Strolls

  • Why it Helps: Going for a short walk, even just around the block, is an easy way to clear your head and get a little exercise. Go without your phone ( I know it might not feel easy to do that at first!) and take in all the sights and sounds so it feels more mindful.

  • How to Do It: Step outside for a quick stroll whenever you feel stuck or overwhelmed. Getting a change of scenery is not only good for our mental well-being but it can be a great way to get a fresh perspective on whatever you are working on. Helping creativity and problem solving flow with more ease.

🌿 Barefoot Grounding

  • Why it Helps: Walking barefoot on grass or sand (often called “grounding” or “earthing”) helps you feel more calm and balanced. It can help calm your nervous system, lift your mood, and bring you back to balance. Why not take some deep belly breaths while you’re at it for an extra well-being boost!

  • How to Do It: Take off your shoes and connect with the earth. Nothing better than the feeling of bare feet on grass! Live near water? Dipping your toes in is another great way to get a little refresh and connect to the natural world.

🪴 Bringing the Outside In

  • Why it Helps: Having indoor plants can improve air quality, lift your mood, and bring a touch of nature into your workspace. Even a small potted plant on your desk can make a big difference!

  • How to Do It: Choose a few easy-to-care-for plants, like succulents or snake plants, and place them around your workspace. These plants serve as a reminder to pause, breathe, and bring a bit of the outdoors into your daily routine. (I say easy to care for because I am not good at keeping plants alive 😂).

👯‍♀️ Walking and Talking

  • Why it Helps: This one is a triple well-being top up. Social connection, movement and fresh air. Win win! It’s a great way to spend more time outside, can help you be more present in the conversation and is a great way to blow away to cobwebs and get a fresh perspective.

  • How to Do It: Next time you have a catch up call planned? Take it outside!

🌸 Gardening

  • Why it Helps: Gardening is an excellent way to connect with nature. Feeling the earth with your hands is very grounding and a good way to down regulate and soothe you nervous system bringing you mindfully to the present moment.

  • How to Do It: Try potting a few plants for your garden or balcony, or even some herbs for your kitchen. If you’re short on space? Small indoor plants or a little succulent garden still works great!
